How to solve one-step equations using all operations?
There are two sets of solving one-step equations worksheets (all operations).
- Solve 1-step equations using all operations.
- Solve 1-step equations using all operations (includes negative numbers).
These are the steps to solve one-step equations:
- Isolate the variable: Use inverse operations to isolate the variable on one side of the equation. Perform the same operation to both sides of the equation to maintain balance.
- Addition or subtraction: If the variable is being added or subtracted, perform the opposite operation to isolate the variable. For example, if you have x + 5 = 12, subtract 5 from both sides to get x = 7.
- Multiplication or division: If the variable is being multiplied or divided, perform the opposite operation to isolate the variable. For example, if you have 2x = 10, divide both sides by 2 to get x = 5.
- Check your solution: After solving the equation, substitute the value back into the original equation to verify if it satisfies the equation. If it does, then you have found the correct solution. If not, review your steps and check for any errors.
It’s important to remember that whatever operation you perform on one side of the equation, you must also perform on the other side to maintain equality.
